Short one this week
Met a patient who had one of their legs amputated a few years ago due to a medical issue.
The patient is in hospital for the same issue again, however on the other leg.
Any guesses about what is going to happen to him?
Ding ding ding, you are right.
His other leg is getting amputated soon.
While speaking to the patient, he was very jolly and was laughing and had a lot of wisdom to offer.
He mentioned two statements that I think are really important for me to mention.
If something bad happens to me, there is no point in laying in bed and wimping around about it. I will move on
and the second one
Life moves on, you always have to move on
This patient was quite horrified and kind of heartbroken (for obvious reasons) about the fact that he was losing his other foot. However, he was very positive, he kept saying he will move on and that is how he has always been in life.
Due to his jolly personality and how relaxed he was, I added a comment that could’ve been risky but I knew he would take it as a joke and I said
You seem like the kinda guy to make it from point A to point B, leg or no legs.
He received the comment well and he got what I meant. I meant both literally, he will find a way to move around but also metaphorically, that he will always find a way to move from a certain point in life to another. It seems like that’s what he has been doing thus far anyways.
Why am I mentioning this in the newsletter?
Just to remind you that no matter how bad things get, you can always find a way through. Try and remain positive, you are allowed to be sad/down of course, but just remember to hope for the best and have a positive outlook for the future. No matter what cards you are dealt, you will use those cards, play the game, make the most of it, enjoy it, go through difficult times and win.
You can always move on and make more of your life and get things done.
Legs or no legs.
