Paediatrics: Am I starting to like it?

Or am i just getting used to the rotation?

I was genuinely expecting only 4-5 people to sign up, but 44 is a massive milestone! Thank you all once again. The number of people who opened the newsletter wasn't too bad either.

Being in a rotation that you hated, but now slightly enjoy

I hated paeds when I started. It was annoying. Examining babies and kids that are always crying, not following instructions - was really frustrating and time-consuming. Something no medical school teaches you about.

We usually walk into the clinical OSCEs and have to deal with adults only, barely any exposure to young kids.

Almost everything is different for kids, the drug dosages, their vital signs change constantly as they grow older, their diseases have different causes than adults etc etc..

However, after the initial 3 weeks of being annoyed and just not enjoying it - this past week has been very calm and chill. I am starting to enjoy being onwards and examining babies. Is it because I am getting used to how to handle them? is it because I am finally getting back into my comfort zone after a 6-month break because of Covid-19? No one knows.

I finish paeds next week - and as much as I enjoyed it recently, it still isn't something I plan on considering for the future.

Nurses are the most amazing people and we need to protect them at all costs!

Nurses are just simply amazing. They are so helpful, so informative and so so nice! They always offer you things to try, they always explain when you are lost. I had encounters with 3 lovely nurses this week and learnt ALOT.

They truly are amazing and go beyond what is required of them to teach you. Of course, there are exceptions with every group of people, some who are just not likeable people, I, of course, am talking of the ones I came across.
