Hello hello hello,
Hope you all had a lovely week!
I’m going to keep it short this week and just get straight to the point. A few days ago I came across this course on the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) website. It is to do with the NEWS2 score calculation, interpretation and meaning.
For those of you currently in the UK, this is a familiar term - ‘NEWS score’. However, for most people studying/working outside the UK. It is just random letters put together. So what is the NEWS score? Well, it stands for National Early Warning Sign score. The name implies exactly what it does. It is a score that determines early warning for a deteriorating patient. It is standardised and can be used throughout the UK.
I won’t go into much detail, but it is very very important. When you get bleeped, the NEWS score is what will determine how urgent and quickly you need to attend this bleep.
So yeah, once again, I highly highly recommend this course if you are planning on going to the UK to work as a doctor, nurse, physician’s associate etc. It will help you.
Price:
£5 - if you do not have an NHS email
Free - if you have an NHS email
Duration:
It took me 30 minutes to complete (however, I was already slightly familiar with the NEWS score). Maybe allow 1 hour or so if you have never heard of this score.
The course is nice, straightforward and detailed. It teaches you everything you need to know and then it’s followed by interactive quizzes and cases at the end.
